The report focuses specifically on emerging market and developing economies (EMDEs) and looks at underexplored aspects of the climate-gender nexus: whether EMDE companies have formalized policies and strategies governing their climate action, whether they take integrated action on climate and gender, and whether the presence of women in the senior leadership of these companies serves as a positive influence to drive gender-responsive climate governance.

Climate change is set to cause unimaginable ecological, societal and economic disruption if its progress is not slowed. And these impacts will disproportionately affect women, low-income, and other disadvantaged groups. By the same token, gender equality and women’s leadership can jump-start climate action and climate smart solutions, to build environmental sustainability and resilience.

The SME Gender Growth Acceleration (SG2X) Playbook was developed by Renew Capital in partnership with USAID to provide asset managers and entrepreneurs with a set of practical tools to aid them in building gender-smart, scalable SMEs in sub-Saharan Africa.

Through this, we can envision and understand the power, potential and opportunity of the decisions we make today.
